Nebbiolo Superiore Prünent Cantine Garrone 2022
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Nebbiolo Superiore Prünent from Cantine Garrone is a Piedmontese red wine based on the Ossolan biotype of the most famous Piedmont grape variety, aged for 12 months in oak tonneaux. It reveals an identity and elegance, enriched in the sip by a pronounced saline component developed from the grapes of terraced vineyards located on granite soils, rich in varietal and territorial references, with great evolutionary potential.
The Nebbiolo Superiore “Prünent” by Cantine Garrone is the flagship wine of this splendid Piedmontese reality, red of supreme elegance that faithfully embodies the character of northern Piemonte. It is hard not to be moved in front of liquids of this thickness, which transcend the discussion of the wine's quality (which is not in question), but which are literally able to transport the drinker to their production area. The Prunent by Cantine Garrone has exactly this power and is the result of a family effort that has been going on for generations, so much so that the winery, founded in 1920, still cultivates 14 hectares of vineyard with the utmost respect for the environment and tradition, continuing with equally meticulous work during the winemaking phase. The liquids obtained are deep expressions of the territory, endowed with taste purity and devoid of any embellishment or superstructure. A photograph in liquid form.
The “Prünent” is obtained from pure Nebbiolo grapes, particularly from a local biotype called precisely “Prünent”. The extraordinary vines that give life to this wineare very old, so much so that some are even on their own roots and exceed one hundred years of age, with extremely low yields. In the vineyard, manual harvesting and careful selection of the bunches are obviously carried out, while in the winery the grapes are crushed and left to ferment on the skins for at least 10 days in stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 28°C. Aging for one year in oak barrels and six months in glass before being put on the market.
The wine “Prunent” presents itself in the glass with a garnet red color, typical of the grape variety. Deep and refined nose, where clear hints of medicinal herbs, balsamic notes, ripe cherry, and licorice stand out. If on the nose the liquid can be dynamic and changing, in the mouth it is no less, where a slender tannin of very fine grain marks the rhythm of the sip. Freshness and a saline matrix complete the picture of a wine with splendid territorial adherence, truly satisfying.
