Cantine Garrone

Cantine Garrone is a family-run business that has been involved in viticulture in the Val d’Ossola area for many generations, a little-known region of Piemonte from an enological point of view, but capable of producing excellent wines. The area boasts an ancient tradition in viticulture and until the devastation of the vineyards caused by phylloxera, Val d’Ossola was largely cultivated. After World War I, the industrialization process in Piemonte pushed much of the population to leave the countryside to work in factories. Garrone was founded in 1920 and has since never ceased to represent a stronghold and a memory of the ancient vocation of the territory, continuing to produce quality wines.

The estate is located in the northernmost part of Alto Piemonte, in Oira di Crevoladossola, near a small village at the foot of the first alpine foothills. The cool and breezy climate, along with the beautiful sunny exposures, have for centuries been the cradle of Prünent, an ancient local clone of Nebbiolo of the Langhe. The vineyard landscape consists of terraces that rise on the sun-exposed slopes of the mountains, supported by steps and dry stone walls. The vines are of particular value, with the presence of old vines, some of which are centenarian, still planted on their own roots. This is heroic viticulture, which requires many hours and labor in the rows carried out exclusively by hand.

The wines of Cantine Garrone are made from grapes that come from their own vineyards, divided into small plots, and from the plots of a group of winemakers belonging to the Associazione Produttori Agricoli Ossolani. The vineyards are cultivated with the utmost respect for an environment that is still wild and unspoiled, trying not to alter the delicate alpine ecosystem. Viticulture discreetly fits into a mountain landscape, contributing to the beauty of the territory with a scene of orderly vineyards. The company philosophy is based on respect for traditions, with the aim of producing honest wines with an authentic face, capable of conveying the true characteristics of this corner of Piemonte.
