The Pelaverga di Verduno “Speziale” is an elegant red, characterized by refined floral and spicy aromas and fresh, fragrant fruity notes. A medium-bodied wine of great finesse, it represents one of the excellences of the magnificent land of Langhe. Grown almost exclusively in the territory of the municipality of Verduno, Pelaverga Piccolo is an ancient native Piedmontese grape variety, which captivates with its seductive bouquet, the pleasantness of its sip, agile and dynamic, and its expressive immediacy.
The red “Speziale” is produced with Pelaverga piccolo grapes, which come from various company crus, all located within the territory of the municipality of Verduno: Riva Rocca, Campasso, Boscatto, Neirane, Sotto Orti, and Galleria. The vineyards are cultivated in hilly areas, at an altitude between 250 and 400 meters, on calcareous soils. The vines have an average age of about 20 years and are trained in Guyot, with a density of about 4500 plants per hectare. After the manual harvest, which usually takes place in the second half of of September, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25-26 °C, with skin maceration for 6-8 days. The wine matures in steel or cement for a few months and is bottled around April or May of the year following the harvest.
