Unusual grapes
Organic and biodynamicThe Perricone from Porta del Vento is a red wine made from the namesake grape variety, forgotten and now rediscovered, capable of expressing great quality. It presents itself visually with an intense ruby color with violet streaks and expresses aromas of Mediterranean scrub, ripe red fruit, and light spices, while on the palate it is soft and tannic, balanced by excellent freshness.
The Perricone from Porta del Vento is a Sicilian red produced with an indigenous red grape variety cultivated for centuries in the area of western Sicily. Forgotten for a long time in favor of more commercial and well-known varieties, Perricone has recently been rediscovered and is showcasing interesting qualities. It is a variety that produces wines of great personality and taste balance. The aging in large barrels allows the wine to evolve and mature without losing its pleasant fruity notes and elegant spicy nuances.
The red Perricone is produced at the Porta del Vento estate, which is located in a beautiful valley in the Camporeale area, about 600 meters above sea level. The estate covers 18 hectares, of which 14 are cultivated with vineyards, on sandy soils that sit on a substrate of sandstone. The climate is characterized by strong temperature variations and the constant presence of wind. The vines are cultivated in bush form, on steep slopes with a northern exposure. The grapes are hand-harvested around mid-October. Fermentation takes place in cement tanks using only indigenous yeasts and a maceration on the skins lasting eight days. The wine matures in large Slavonian oak barrels for two years and finishes aging with a few months in the bottle before being released for sale.
The Perricone wine from the Sicilian winery Porta del Vento is a typically territorial red, which well represents the pedoclimatic characteristics of the production area and the varietal profile of the grape. In the glass, it presents a ruby red color with violet reflections, and the bouquet expresses aromas of aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, red fruit aromas, and spicy nuances. On the palate, it has a medium structure with intense fruit, beautiful tannic texture, and a finish of lively freshness.
