For several years now, there has been work in Friuli to enhance Pinot Noir as an identity wine of the territory, and many producers have already dedicated themselves to cultivating this demanding and difficult-to-manage grape variety. In the area of Mariano del Friuli, Pinot Noir has found a cool and breezy climate and soils suitable to express itself at interesting qualitative levels. It thus shows a profile refined, fresh and delicate, offering aromas of small red berries and delicate spices.
The Pinot Noir wine is born in a land fundamentally of whites. The Friulian winery Vie di Romans has, in fact, become famous for a series of prestigious labels of the best white grape wines from the territory. The estate has ancient origins, dating back to the early 1900s, and today extends over a total of about sixty hectares.in the Isonzo Valley, planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Friulano, and Malvasia. However, a few years ago, a small vineyard of Pinot Noir was created with the intent of verifying the adaptability of Burgundy red to the microclimate of Mariano del Friuli. The first results have been encouraging, and although the vines are still very young, they are beginning to produce grapes with intense aromatic profiles, which yield fresh and elegant wines.
The Pinot Noir Vie di Romans is born in the area of Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte. It is a young vineyard, just over a hectare, planted in Burgundy style, with high planting density and low yields. The vinification takes place in steel at controlled temperature, with a maceration on the skins of a couple of weeks. The wine matures for 12 months in oak barrique, 8 months in steel tank, and completes the aging with 15 months in bottle. The color is ruby red.brilliant, and the bouquet opens with fragrant notes of small forest fruits, delicately spiced hints, nuances of underbrush, notes of bitter cocoa and leather. The taste is pleasantly smooth, with a medium-bodied structure and fine tannins. The finish is fresh, long, and savory.
