PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA 'LUTUM' DE QUARTO 2019 DESCRIPTION

Primitivo di Manduria 'Lutum' from the Apulian De Quarto estate faithfully expresses the characteristic fullness and roundness of the appellation. The estate's registered office is located in Leporano, in the province of Taranto, while the winery and vineyards cultivated by the De Quarto family are a few kilometres away in the municipality of Lizzano. Here, the climate is typically Mediterranean and is strongly influenced by the proximity to the Ionian Sea, from which salty breezes blow constantly to keep the grapes dry. The name 'Lutum' derives from the Latin word for clay, referring to the red clay soil where the grapes for this label grow.

De Quarto Primitivo di Manduria 'Lutum' is a 100% Primitivo from vines trained to Pugliese alberello on red soil. In the second half of September, when the berries have reached full ripeness, manual harvesting is carried out, followed by red vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and 18 days of maceration on the skins. Maturation always takes place in stainless steel and continues for a few months before bottling and final marketing.

The colour of Primitivo di Manduria 'Lutum' from the family-run De Quarto estate is an intense garnet red. The aromatic spectrum is decisive and broad in its hints of ripe red fruits that combine with light spicy sensations. On the palate, it is full and soft, warm and round, with smooth tannins and a long fruity finish. This Primitivo di Manduria should be paired with food of a certain structure, such as mature cheeses, roast or grilled meats or earthy first courses with a strong flavour.
