Schioppettino 'RiNera' Vigna Petrussa 2022
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Schioppettino "RiNera" from Vigna Petrussa is a very expressive and territorial red wine, vinified and aged in steel. On the nose, notes of berries, spices, and black pepper emerge. The sip is warm and enveloping, dynamic and well-balanced, with a nice freshness.
The Friulian family-run reality Vigna Petrussa presents the Schioppettino ‘RiNera’, a red wine with a pleasant fruity and winey aromatic profile. The origins of the Vigna Petrussa winery date back to the 19th century, when the Petrussa family cultivated the countryside alongside wine production and cereal cultivation, which was the specialty of the estate at the time. Since then, three generations of women winemakers have succeeded each other: first Giuseppina, who focused on indigenous varieties like Schioppettino, then in 1995 her daughter Hilde Petrussa, who raised the quality of production by concentrating on Schioppettino, and finally, since 2021, Francesca Mecchia, who began assisting her mother Hilde in managing the estate.
The ‘RiNera’ Schioppettino from Vigna Petrussa is a 100% Schioppettino from vines grown at about 100 meters above sea level on the so-called “ponca”, a type of soil made up of a alternation of layers of marl and sandstone. After manual harvesting in crates, the grapes are crushed in stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place in contact with the skins, accompanied by pump-overs and délestage and followed by malolactic fermentation. Also in steel, the maturation phase lasts for several months, after which the final bottling takes place.
The Schioppettino ‘RiNera’ from the Vigna Petrussa estate has an intense ruby red color with violet reflections. Winey and fragrant, the olfactory mosaic is composed of aromas of dark fruit, ripe hay, and spices like pepper. The taste is warm, intense, and balanced, supported by juicy freshness, soft tannins, and a tasty savory finish. The structure is medium, and the finish shows excellent aromatic persistence.
