Timorasso Derthona 'Pitasso' Claudio Mariotto 2021
The Timorasso "Pitasso" by Mariotto is a rich, intense, and full-bodied white wine. It has a very territorial aromatic profile, with notes of yellow fruit, flowers, and honey, destined to evolve for many years. On the palate, it is soft, flavorful, and complex, with excellent persistence.
The Pitasso is one of the crus produced by Claudio Mariotto from Timorasso grapes, a variety with great expressive power that has historically always populated the Colli Tortonesi but that, until the early '90s, risked disappearing due to the progressive preference of many local winemakers for varieties that are easier to cultivate and more widely known.
The resistance put up by some tenacious vignerons, committed to rediscovering these grape varieties, has led to the current production of some of the greatest Italian whites, capable of evolving over time in an impeccable manner. Since the early years of the revival of Timorasso, Claudio Mariotto has sought to create a highly representative range for every possible expression of the grape variety, working with old vines in excellent exposures to produce wines of strong personality.
Among these, there is certainly the Pitasso, created by Claudio Mariotto following a style that favors the most authentic expression of the base grape, naturally predisposed to produce full-bodied wines with a good alcohol content, with a marked minerality conferred by the clay-limestone soils of Vho.
clay-limestone of Vho.For some years now, most industry guides have given excellent reviews for this cru, and tastings of old vintages have confirmed its wide potential for evolution over time: all that remains is to dive into the splendid and still unexplored territory of the Colli Tortonesi through a tasting of Pitasso!
