Bodegas Piedra winery's Toro 'Lagarona Tinto' is a Spanish red wine made from Tinto de Toro and Garnacha in the Castilla y Leon region. It ages for 16 months in wood and 2 years in bottle before release, acquiring great elegance and power. The intensity of the fruit stands out on the palate, the tannins are silky and the finish is long and persistent, while the nose opens into a broad and complex bouquet in which notes of berries, plum and cherry are accompanied by pleasant balsamic and spicy tones. A wine to be left to rest in the cellar a few years to fully discover its great finesse

Through its powerful yet elegant style, the Toro ‘Lagarona Tinto’ from Bodegas Piedra is able to impress from the very first sip. The name ‘Lagarona’ comes from the homonymous plot from which the grapes originate, which in turn takes its name from the Guareña river that flows nearby. In particular, the plot comprises approximately 35 hectares of old vines grown sustainably in goblet training.

Toro ‘Lagarona Tinto’ Bodegas Piedra is made from a blend of Tinta de Toro (75%) and Garnacha (25%). When the grapes reach the ideal stage of ripeness, manual harvesting takes place, followed by careful selection of the grapes and then the crushing of the bunches in stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation occurs at controlled temperature with prolonged contact between the must and the skins. The subsequent malolactic fermentation and aging of 16 months both take place in French oak barriques and are followed by a further two years of resting in bottle before the final market release.

in bottle before the final market release.

In the glass, the ‘Lagarona Tinto’ Toro from the Spanish winery Bodegas Piedra displays an intense garnet red color. The olfactory panorama is described by rich and inviting fruity notes of cherry, blackberry, and plum accompanied by fresh balsamic sensations and soft spicy notes due to the wood aging. On the palate, it is full and enveloping, intense and persistent, with a velvety tannic structure and a tasty finish. This is a red wine of excellent longevity that requires structured pairings such as main courses based on red meats or game, roasted or even better stewed, seasoned with various spices and herbs and perhaps served with a side of potatoes or purée.
