The Valpolicella Superiore “Ruberpan” from the Pieropan winery is a label of great drinkability, inspired by the classic model of the most traditional and iconic wine of this wonderful hilly territory located north of Verona. As per ancient custom, it is made with indigenous red grape varieties. Varieties cultivated for centuries in Veneto, where they have found the best interaction with soils and climate. The very name, which recalls the Latin word “ruber”, aims to underline the deep connection with the oldest local customs. Valpolicella was already famous in antiquity for its great wines and still today represents an important reference point, characterized by a strong territorial identity.
The “Ruberpan” Pieropan is a Valpolicella Superiore that comes from a research path aimed at going beyond the standard expression of the wines of the area. It is a label capable of indicating a new expressive path, more modern and elegant. The red grape varieties Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Croatina, come from the estate located in Val d’Illasi, in the heart of Valpolicella. The vineyards are cultivated in a splendid natural context, at an altitude of about 300-350 meters above sea level, with wonderfully south-facing exposure. The mild and breezy climate and the soils, predominantly composed of limestone and clay, allow for the production of clusters with particularly fine and elegant aromas. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a maceration period on the skins of about a dozen days. The wine rests for 24 months in large barrels, then for another 24 months in oak tonneaux and finally completes the long aging process with six months in bottle before leaving the winery.
The “Ruberpan” Valpolicella Superiore is a surprising wine for its ability to combine the historical customs of the place with the ideas of a great innovator in the world of Veneto wine. In the glass, it presents a beautiful intense and luminous ruby red color. On the nose, it releases a rich bouquet,
characterized by aromas of ripe cherry, currant, strawberry, small berries, soft hints of cinnamon and oriental spices, notes of vanilla, delicate woody memories, cocoa and bitter chocolate. The palate is harmonious and smooth, with a fine tannic texture and a perfect balance between rich and ripe fruit and the refined tertiary evolution notes, due to the long aging in wood. The finish is pleasantly fruity, fresh and fragrant.
