Vernaccia 'Orriu Sulle Bucce' Quartomoro 2024
"Orriu Sulle Bucce" by Quartomoro is a fresh and vibrant Vernaccia in purity, coming from Oristanese. This white wine is part of the new 'Orriu' project of the winery and is distinguished by its strong character, also due to the 36 hours of skin maceration that highlight intensity and structure. It dresses the glass with a golden cloak and engages the nose with notes of candied yellow fruit and more floral hints. To be enjoyed both with fish dishes and with flavorful cheeses
The Vernaccia 'Orriu sulle Bucce' by the Sardinian winery Quartomoro is a macerated white wine with an intense and saline flavour, traits that are typical of both the Tirso Valley and the Vernaccia grape. The term Vernaccia derives from the Latin 'vernaculum', meaning 'indigenous', 'of the house', indicating a grape traditionally widespread in a specific place, as in the case of Vernaccia in the Oristano area. In this area, the custom is to vinify this grape in an oxidative version, with long ageing in partially drained barrels under the veil of flor yeasts, the same system adopted in Jerez for the production of sherry and in the Jura for Vin Jaune. Quartomoro's version, however, involves vinification by reduction, without the flor veil, following a more modern approach to this very old variety.
Quartomoro Vernaccia 'Orriu sulle Bucce' originates only from Vernaccia grapes grown in the Tirso Valley on soils rich in sand, clay and calcareous skeleton. When the grapes have reached the right stage of ripeness, manual harvesting is carried out in boxes, followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with 2-3 days of maceration on the skins. The wine then matures for approximately 6 months, again in stainless steel, and after a further brief soak in the bottle it is ready for its definitive release.
The Vernaccia Quartomoro 'Orriu sulle Bucce' has a lively golden yellow colour. The nose evokes notes of calla lily, quince, broom, peach, candied pear, lemon and Mediterranean herbs, supported by mineral hints of iodine. The flavour is rich, intense and structured, decidedly savoury, balanced between softness and freshness, with a vibrant finish of excellent taste-olfactory correspondence.
