Quartomoro
A “teaching winery”, this is how Piero Cella himself defines Quartomoro, a wine-producing reality in Sardinia of which he is the owner and winemaker. An adjective more than suitable as the estate is configured as a laboratory of ideas and wine experiences that Piero is able to skillfully combine, giving rise to original products that are strongly linked to the Sardinian wine tradition. The winery was founded in 2011 in Arborea, in the province of Oristano, under the sign of research and constant experimentation. Piero Cella's goal, who serves as a wine consultant for various realities in Sardinia and has had the opportunity to collaborate with master Giacomo Tachis at the Santadi winery, is to enhance the Sardinian territory with its excellences and its multiple facets. The vineyard area of the Quartomoro winery extends over 15 hectares, dedicated to numerous traditional grape varieties such as Bovale Grande, Vermentino, Cannonau, Nuragus, Carignano, Semidano, Muristellu, Vernaccia, Cagnulari, Monica, Pascale, Girò and Malvasia, witnesses of extraordinary ampelographic variability of Sardegna. These varieties are spread across numerous different Sardinian territories, which are very heterogeneous in terms of soil and climate characteristics: in the Arborea-Terralbese area, sandy soils prevail; in the Oristanese, clay layers overlap with sand or silica; in the Mandrolisai area, altitudes are high while the soils are granitic; basaltic, trachytic, and medium-textured calcareous soils prevail in Planargia; in Nuorese and Ogliastra, the soils are partly basaltic and partly granitic; in Gallura, the soils are sandy and granitic, rich in skeleton; in the Nurra-Coros area, red and brown soils are found, characterized by an abundant presence of limestone; in the Centro Basso Campidano, a high limestone component prevails; finally, in Sulcis, the soils are predominantly sandy, with a higher presence of clay towards the interior. To enhance this pedoclimatic and varietal richness, Piero Cella adopts a clean and highly respectful enology of the raw material. From these multiple pedoclimatic and enological parameters originates the wide and varied range of the Quartomoro winery, divided into the lines ‘Bollicine’, ‘Memorie di Vite’, ‘Intrecci di Vite’ and ‘Òrriu’.
