Alta Alella

Alta Alella is a Spanish winery located in the first inland area of the Mediterranean coast, between Mataró and Barcelona. It is a classic family estate, managed with passion and love for its land. Josep Maria and Cristina Pujol-Busquets Guillén have dedicated their entire lives to cultivating the vineyard and producing still wines and Cava, the famous Spanish sparkling wine made using the Classic Method, one of the excellences of this vocated hilly territory, which is set in a landscape of extraordinary beauty, directly overlooking the sea. Their daughters, Mireia and Georgina, grew up among the vines and have breathed in the atmosphere of harvests and wine from a young age. They have thus acquired the family knowledge and experience and are preparing to take over the estate and carry on the business in the spirit of tradition.

The winery was established in 1991, taking over the 19th-century Can Genís estate. Since its foundation, it has been managed according to the principles of organic farming, without the use of herbicides, fertilizers, or chemical preparations.Chemical. Treatments in the vineyard are carried out only with sulfur and copper, and the entire estate is managed with the utmost respect for nature, aiming to protect the environmental ecosystem as a whole and to preserve and promote the biodiversity of local flora and fauna. The property is located just two kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, and the vineyards are cultivated on slopes or terraces situated at an altitude between 100 and 250 meters above sea level. The climate is sunny, very bright, and breezy, always mitigated by sea breezes, which temper the highest temperatures, ensuring excellent ripening. The vines root in a soil called Sauló, made up of sands derived from the disintegration of white granite rocks, with low limestone and organic matter content, very draining and suitable for quality viticulture.

Excellent quality and suitable for producing wines capable of expressing the best characteristics of the terroir.  In 2020, the Cava regulatory body approved a new zoning regulation for the area of the denomination and recognized the Serra de Mar area for its absolutely unique and particular pedoclimatic characteristics, due to its proximity to the sea and the presence of Sauló soil.
