Château Changyu Moser XV
Chateau Changyu is the oldest Chinese estate. It was created in 1892 by Zhang Bishi, a Chinese diplomat who started the activity in Yantai under the name Zhang Yu Wine Company. To establish the vineyards, he imported 500,000 cuttings from Europe and the United States, paving the way for the development of viticulture and wine production in the country, also thanks to the advice and collaboration of the Austrian winemaker August Wilhelm Baron von Babo. After over 120 years of history, today Changyu is an important reality with international shareholders, managing eight estates in various regions of China and producing a wide range of wines, spirits, and distillates. In 2015, Lenz Maria Moser founded the company Lenz M. Moser Projects with the intent of leveraging his thirty years of experience in the sector for new projects.
The Moser family has been involved in viticulture since the early 1600s in the area of Rohrendorf, Lower Austria. Lenz Maria Moser studied oenology at the famous Austrian university of Klosterneuburg. After having worked for 10 years as General Manager at Lenz Moser Winery, in 1997 he began collaborating with Robert Mondavi, handling his activities in Europe. In 2004 he returned to Austria and founded the estate Laurenz V., distinguishing himself especially in the cultivation and enhancement of Grüner Veltliner, elevating it to one of the best whites in the world. In 2005 he came into contact with the Changyu winery and after a series of increasingly close interactions, in 2015 the Chateau Changyu Moser XV project was born, a prestigious reality aimed at creating the best Chinese wines.
The estate is located in central-western China, not far from the Gobi Desert and can count on water supply from the Yellow River, which originates from the unspoiled springs of the Tibetan plateau. The area enjoys excellent insulation, with sunny days and cool nights, ensuring slow and optimal ripening of the grapes. The philosophy of Chateau Changyu Moser XV is the result of a rich international experience, transplanted into a terroir that presents remarkable potential for viticulture. Lenz M. Moser personally oversees the production of the wines, together with the Chinese winemaker Mr Fan Xi. Today it represents a new frontier of wine, with very encouraging results.
