Draga
Owned by the Miklus family for three generations, the Draga winery is located in an area considered one of the most suited for viticulture: the Collio. The area is indeed protected from the cold currents of the Alps to the north and accompanied by the sea breeze from the Adriatic Sea to the south, an ideal climate for producing quality grapes. The winery takes its name from a local toponym that in Slovenian means “precious” and is currently managed by Milan, along with his wife Anna and their children Denis and Mitja.
The vineyard extends over 15 hectares at about 300 meters above sea level and is divided into two plots: Draga and Breg. The vines are cultivated using the cappuccina and guyot methods and grow on a soil locally called “ponka”, made up of eocene sandy marls rich in microelements, which impart aroma, elegance, and minerality to the wines. The vineyard is completely grassed over, cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment, without the use of herbicides. The yield per hectare is very low to ensure the highest quality of the grapes. In respect of the traditions, most of the work in the vineyard is done manually.
The Draga winery has created two production lines: the classic Draga, with fresh and aromatic wines, produced through fermentation and maturation in only steel; the Miklus, which includes more structured wines with great personality, obtained from the use of wooden containers, from skin macerations and long stays of the must on the lees. From the inexhaustible passion and expertise acquired generation after generation, intense wines are born that can offer intriguing suggestions.
