Domain Joseph Lafarge is a relatively new name in Burgundy, which in just a few years has been able to carve out a niche for itself thanks to fresh, mineral wines that well represent the character of the Mâconnais wine region, the territory in which this family-run winery operates. We are precisely in the leux-dit Les Grands Bois, a plateau overlooking the village of Lugny, where viticulture has been practised since the 18th century. Here, in 2011, the Lafarge family founded the wine tourism establishment Le Clos du Grand Bois, renamed in 2013 as Domain Joseph Lafarge. The Lafarge family have been winegrowers in this area since at least the 18th century, as various documents testify, with the business now passed into the hands of Robert and Anthony Lafarge, Joseph's son and grandson respectively, custodians of 3 centuries and 10 generations of winegrowing tradition.

The 13 hectares owned by the Joseph Lafarge winery are reserved mainly for Chardonnay, the varietal symbol of the Mâconnais region, represented in part by vines over 70 years old and flanked by the black grape varieties Pinot Noir and Gamay. The rows of vines grow on calcareous and clayey soils and are cultivated using only copper and sulphur in the fight against parasitic agents, excluding the use of herbicides and chemical pesticides, according to the parameters of organic farming. Harvesting is carried out by hand and in the cellar fermentation takes place spontaneously in stainless steel tanks, the same wine containers used for the maturation phase, in order to enhance the characteristics of the vine and the terroir without the influence of wood.

Alongside white wines, the mainstay of Domain Joseph Lafarge's production, the family is dedicated to the elaboration of red wines, rosés and even delicious Crémant de Bourgogne. In general, the entire selection offers the opportunity to tastetypical expressions of southern Burgundy at affordable prices. In addition, alongside the wine production, the estate offers the opportunity to stay in characteristic rooms in large wooden barrels for an all-round wine experience.
