Le Fraghe
Le Fraghe is a winery located in Cavaion Veronese, within the production area of Bardolino. Always connected to the territory and the vineyard, Matilde Poggi began her activity in the early '80s and has managed to stand out with a range of wines of excellent quality, which interpret the characteristics of the terroir in a straightforward and genuine way. In love with her land, she has been committed from the beginning to enhancing the local indigenous grape varieties and the wines traditionally made on the Veneto shore of Lake Garda. As she herself likes to emphasize, her wines are children of the mountain, the lake, and the river, the three natural elements that help shape the landscape and influence the local pedoclimatic characteristics.
The estate is located in an area always suited to viticulture. The gentle hilly reliefs that host the vineyards were created by an ancient alpine glacier, which, retreating, left a rich sedimentation of debris. The soils are of morenic origin, rich in pebbles and gravel, which makes them very draining. The climate is influenced by various elements. Monte Baldo and the mountains rising towards Trentino shield the area from disturbances coming from the north, while the presence of the large basin of Lake Garda serves as a natural thermal regulator, helping to soften temperatures and create a mild climate with Mediterranean nuances. Finally, the Adige River creates a corridor running from north to south, favoring the cold air currents descending from the Alps.
The vineyards are cultivated with maximum respect for the natural ecosystem and since 2009 the estate has been certified organic. All chemical substances have been banned, and treatments are carried out only using sulfur and copper. Among the rows, there is space for the historical varieties of the territory: Corvina and Rondinella for red grapes and Garganega for white grapes. The careful management of the vineyard allows for the maturation of grapes of excellent quality. The vinifications are carried out very simply, with minimal intervention oenological, in order to preserve and highlight the typical characteristics of the grape varieties and the terroir.
