Le Piane

The Le Piane winery, located in the Natural Park of Monte Fenera, in the province of Novara, is one of the reference points for winemaking in northern Piemonte. Its activity has been fundamental in enhancing a small denomination of excellence, that of Boca. It was founded in 1998 by the Swiss Christoph Kunzli, an importer, and Alexandr Trolf, who passed away prematurely that same year. In love with this unspoiled corner of Piemonte, the two friends purchased the Campo alle Piane vineyard from Antonio Cerri, one of the last producers in the area, who at the time was 80 years old. Thanks to the support of an international group of enthusiasts, Christoph bought other vineyards and, within a few years, developed a small winery that has become a reference model.

The excellence of the Le Piane winery is the result of the combination between a particularly favorable terroir and the recovery of ancient traditions. The volcanic origin soil, mostly gravelly, and the pre-Alpine climate are fundamental elements in defining the wines products. In addition to this, a work management closely linked to environmental sustainability and virtuous traditions allows for the production, every year, of a wine as great as it is ancient. In the vineyard, only copper and sulfur are used, with organic pesticides like algae and mycorrhizae, while in the winery the fermentations are spontaneous, thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts.

The most famous wine of Le Piane is undoubtedly the Boca, the flagship of the winery and a wine monument of northern Piemonte, subject to numerous accolades from the public and international critics. The entire production is characterized by a common physiognomy, played on elegance, finesse, and a perfect balance between structure and drinkability, between extractive matter and freshness, between solidity and momentum. Christoph's activity, a true heir to the ancient practices of the local farmers, has restored dignity and vigor to a territory and a wine that risked being forgotten due to the depopulation of the countryside. Thanks to Christoph, today the Boca enjoys a legendary fame.
