'Xarel.lo A Pel' Loxarel 2022
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicThe "Xarel.lo A Pel" by Loxarel is the amphora white of the winery, produced with Xarell-lo, the main variety of this area. The choice of terracotta is made to return a clear wine that expresses to the maximum the varietal characteristics of this grape, aromatic and marine. The nose has intriguing hints reminiscent of salt that remind of the sea, then aromas of white fruit and herbaceous notes on the finish, like freshly cut grass: truly unique. On the palate it surprises for its minerality and freshness, traits with which the pleasing greasiness of the sip balances very well. This kind of wine is the perfect complement to a 'plateau' of raw seafood
Loxarel proposes with “Xarel.lo d’Amfora” a highly balanced extraction interpretation of the homonymous native grape that is emblematic of the winery. The amphora expresses an extreme purity, preserving the primary aromas of the varietal even within a mass of great density and maintaining a constant temperature, thanks to its porosity.
Loxarel creates “Xarel.lo d’Amfora” vinifying in purity the symbol variety of the winery, from which the anagram that composes the name of the company itself derives. The Xarel.lo grapes come from vineyards located in the center of the Penedès region, in the territory of Masia Can Mayol, above the limestone plateau that expands in the midst of the surrounding hilly chains, at about 250 meters above sea level, and that finds a direct outlet to the Mediterranean to the southwest. The climate can be scorching in summer, somewhat mitigated by the sea breezes, while the old roots dig deep to recover the nutrients. The agronomic management is based on the principles and the use of biodynamic agriculture preparations, while the green pruning is entrusted, in May and July, to a flock of sheep that eats the leaves without touching the still too unripe grapes. The manual harvest brings fully ripe bunches to the winery and the fermentation of the must takes place through indigenous yeasts in 720-liter terracotta amphorae. In the same containers, aging continues for a period of 5 months, at the end of which it is bottled without filtration, clarification, or added sulfur.
“Xarel.lo d’Amfora” by Loxarel presents a bright straw-yellow color with golden reflections. The nose is immediately centered on herbaceous tones of freshly mown grass, with ripe and sugary hints of white fruit pulp, while the background is drawn by a powerful iodized nuance. The tasting reveals a distinctly mineral character, balancing a dense and oily structure of great aromatic caliber, crossed by bursts of vibrant freshness and persistent salinity. A white with a unique and complex character, which can be paired with great satisfaction with raw fish and spicy Middle Eastern cuisine.
