AMARONE CLASSICO 'COSTASERA' MASI 2018 DESCRIPTION

Masi's Amarone Classico "Costasera" is unequivocally recognized as a benchmark for this type of wine, if not among the great Italian reds. The winery is historically rooted in the heart of Valpolicella and the Venetian area, where sublime wines are born, thanks to a tenacious and expert technique matured over time, combining tradition and innovation. Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes come from soils with the presence of basalt and different soil types. The sunset-facing coasts are considered the best for producing an unparalleled Amarone. In fact, the day lasts longer here and the vines benefit from more warmth, an advantage also amplified by the positive proximity of Lake Garda, which mirrors the sunlight and caresses the environment with its milder climate.

Amarone Classico is made by the technique of drying the grapes during the early winter months, now a signature of the winery thanks to the considerable studies carried out by its technicians, which leads the bunches to be gently laid out in traditional fruit lofts on bamboo cane areles, which ensure greater aeration between the bunches. This age-old technique ensures that the grapes best concentrate sugars and ideal substances, and evolve their aromatic characteristics. When the fruits are deemed ready they are pressed and alcoholic fermentation is started, carried out slowly and for a long time at the natural low temperature of the winter months. The resulting wine ages 24 months for the most part in Slavonian oak barrels, the remaining part in barriques.

Masi "Costasera" has a very intense ruby red, dense and oily. Engaging notes of cooked fruit emerge on the nose, in some nuances it is almost toasty, veiledly spicy. On the palate it is balanced but strong at the same time, with ever-present tannins, juicy fruit notes, it closes richly and persistently. Symbolic, proud and exuberant. It wants to be second to none!
