The Fiano “Il Bianco dei Vespa” from the Apulian winery of the famous journalist Bruno Vespa is a wine produced with one of the oldest and noblest native grape varieties of southern Italy, which, in addition to its native Campania, also expresses itself very well in the Apulian lands. The choice of vinification carried out exclusively in steel allows for the preservation of the freshness of the fruity aromas, giving a lively and immediate sip.
The "Bianco dei Vespa" is a white wine made from Fiano grapes produced by Bruno Vespa's winery, located in Li Reni, in a beautiful farmhouse in the countryside of Manduria. The choice to work only with the native grape varieties of the territory led to the selection of Primitivo and Negroamaro for the reds and Fiano for the whites. To give a more territorial profile to the wine, Apulian clones of Fiano were selected, aiming to favor the plants that produce clusters with small and aromatic-rich berries. The Fiano vineyards are cultivated in the Salice Salentino area, at an altitude of about 50 meters above sea level, on predominantly clayey and sandy soils.predominantly clayey and sandy. The vines have an average age of about 10 years and are trained on trellises with a density of 5000 plants per hectare. The harvest takes place in the last weeks of August and the grapes are gently pressed to extract the free-run juice. Fermentation then takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine matures in steel tanks for several months before being bottled.
The Fiano “Il Bianco dei Vespa” expresses the characteristics of the terroir and the typical notes of this great native grape variety very well. The typically Mediterranean climate, the proximity to the sea, with its iodine breezes, gives the wine a very particular character. In the glass, it presents itself with a straw-yellow color with greenish reflections. The bouquet expresses delicate aromas of citrus peel and lime, white-fleshed fruit, hints of aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it surprises with its energetic and lively attack, supported by a savory vein and a finish of beautiful freshness.
