The “Fratta” by Maculan is a great Veneto red, among the most interesting and successful Bordeaux-style blends produced in the Vicenza area. It is made with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in equal parts, grown in the best vineyards of the Breganze estate. The long aging in barriques, almost exclusively new, emphasizes the desire to create a wine of particular aromatic complexity, rich and long-lived, with an international character.
The Maculan “Fratta” represents the most prestigious label of the famous Breganze winery, the flagship of the production, born to fulfill Fausto Maculan's dream of creating a great aging red. Always a lover of Bordeaux wines, an essential reference for those who cultivate Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Fausto has carried out an innovative project that has involved all components of the company. Aware that a great bottle can only be born in the vineyard, he selected the plots with the best exposures. The Cabernet grapesSauvignon comes from a vineyard located in the Ferrata area, cultivated with very high density, while the Merlot grapes come from the Villa Elettra vineyard, planted in 1999 on a slope facing east, southeast. At the end of the manual harvest, with selection in the vineyard of the best bunches, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with skin maceration for 8 days and frequent pump-overs. Before bottling, the wine matures for 12 months in French oak barriques, 80% of which are new.
The “Fratta” Cabernet and Merlot by Maculan is an important red, a label to open on a special dinner occasion and to pair with braised dishes or game. It presents itself with a ruby red color with garnet reflections. The olfactory profile is intense and complex, with aromas of red berry fruit, underbrush, notes of spices, cocoa, leather, toasted and spiced hints.
