The Lagrein from Bergmannhof originates from the sandy soils of Appiano. The wine ferments and matures in the same barrels for 6 months until bottling. Intense aromas of mixed red fruits combined with delicate hints of spices create an inviting bouquet, on the palate it is soft yet firm. A Lagrein that well expresses the typicality of this South Tyrolean grape variety.

The Sudtirol Lagrein from the family-run Bergmannhof winery is a red wine with animportant fruity intensity, an authentic expression of this indigenous South Tyrolean variety. Initial hypotheses regarding the name Lagrein pointed to a connection with the area of Val Lagarina, 'Lagertal' in German, where this grape seemed to have originated. Instead, recent and more valid theories report that its name would derive from Lagaria, an ancient city of Magna Graecia, located along the coastal strip of today's Basilicata, where Lagaritanos was produced, a high quality wine made from ancient vines related precisely to Lagrein, as reported by modern genetic studies.

Bergmannhof Lagrein Alto Adige is a 100% Lagrein from vines grown using sustainable agronomic practices in the San Paolo area, a hamlet in the Appiano commune. The vines, aged between 3 and 15 years, are planted on clay, limestone and gravel soils, with some very stony areas. Usually in early October, the grapes are harvested by hand and placed in oak barrels for alcoholic fermentation, combined with a 14-15 day maceration on the skins. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by full malolactic fermentation and 6 months' ageing, again in oak barrels.

Lagrein Sudtirol Bergmannhof has an intense, brilliant ruby-red colour. The nose reveals lively fruity and floral sensations of raspberry, cherry and violet mingling with notes of sweet spices such as cloves, complemented by fresh balsamic whiffs of spearmint. Good structure and intensity on the palate, warm and finely tannic, with a lovely fruity, mineral finish.
