'Pam i Pipa' Artesano Vintners 2021

‘Pam i Pipa’ represents a succulent Mediterranean interpretation crafted by the Catalan winery Artesano Vintners. This winemaking project was born in 2016 from the passion of young New Zealanders Alex Craighead and Mike Shepherd, the former already the owner of the artisanal winery Kindeli in New Zealand, the latter engaged for years in winemaking activities in Catalonia. Their wines are produced in very limited quantities within a small space reserved for them at Bodega La Boella. The name “Artesano Vintners” literally means “artisan winemakers”, highlighting the production philosophy embraced by Mike and Alex, while the label’s name translates to “bread and pipe”.

Artesano Vintners ‘Pam i Pipa’ consists of a blend of Garnatxa Negre and Cabernet Franc grapes grown in a biological regime, without the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other synthetic chemical products. Following manual harvesting, the alcoholic fermentation of the two varieties takes place in steel tanks thanks tothe intervention of only the yeasts present on the grapes and in the winery environment. Once the spontaneous fermentation process is completed, the mass spends a few months maturing always in steel before bottling, which occurs without clarifications or filtrations. Throughout the entire winemaking and aging process, no enological aids or additives are used, including sulfur.

In the glass, the ‘Pam i Pipa’ from the Artesano Vintners winery displays a ruby red color with garnet hues. Vivid hints of red and black fruits and aromatic herbs characterize the olfactory panorama, enriched by deep perceptions of pepper and Mediterranean scrub. The taste development is rich, fresh, and smooth, with a pleasant tannin that anticipates the savory epilogue.
