POMMARD PREMIER CRU 'LES PEZEROLLES' DOMAINE JOSEPH VOILLOT 2017 DESCRIPTION

Domaine Joseph Voillot's Pommard Premier Cru Les Pezerolles is a high-end label that comes from a famous terroir in the Côte de Beaune. Pommard, located between Volnay and Beaune, is home to a beautiful vineyard at an altitude of 250 to 330 meters above sea level, facing east to south. Within its territory there are as many as 29 Climats classified as Premier Cru, particularly suited thanks to soils of limestone matrix, rich in iron oxides. In these lands, Pinot Noir expresses itself with a rich and deep character, with good structure and aromatic complexity. It is a wine that allows one to discover the personality of a prized parcel, capable of expressing the noble face of Pommard.

Premier Cru Les Pezerolles Pommard comes from a family-owned winery that has been cultivating vineyards in Burgundy for 6 generations. Domaine Joseph Voillot covers 6 hectares, divided into many plots. Pinot Noir grapes come exclusively from a parcel located in the Premier Cru of Les Pézerolles, which is located in the northeastern part of the Pommard communal area, towards the border with Beaune. The vineyard is almost 60 years old and is cultivated in a mid-hill area, characterized by soils composed of limestone marl. The grapes are rigorously selected, first in the vineyard during manual harvesting and then on the sorting table before vinification. After destemming, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts and a maceration of two to three weeks. The wine matures in French oak barrels, with 10-15% new wood.

Pommard Premier Cru Les Pezerolles Domaine Joseph Voillot perfectly expresses the peculiarities of the great Pinot Noirs of this legendary Burgundy village, which have always been appreciated for their elegance and intensity. It is a wine that reaches full expressive maturity after several years of aging and has a good aging potential. It has a bright ruby red color with light garnet reflections. The bouquet is rich with aromas of currants, morello cherries, strawberries, hints of underbrush, spices and noble woods. The sip is deep and intense, with remarkable aromatic richness and a long, harmonious and persistent finish.
