Farnese-Luccarelli's Primitivo di Manduria 'Il Bacca' comes from the beautiful land of Puglia, a land of wines with authentic flavours. Luccarelli winery is part of the Farnese Group, an important wine-growing and wine-producing company with several locations throughout the country. Luccarelli is based in Manduria, where primitivo was born and can unfold its most authentic characteristics. The goal that is pursued on a daily basis is the maniacal care of every single detail: every phase of the growth and development of the grapes is followed step by step from the early hours of the morning, where the expert oenologists take care of every step of the work in the cellar, to guarantee a final product of the highest quality.
The grapes of Farnese-Luccarelli's Primitivo di Manduria 'Il Bacca' grow in a Mediterranean climate, characterised by unlimited amounts of sunshine and mild temperatures in both summer and winter, thanks to sea breezes from both the Ionian and Adriatic Seas. The soil is composed of red clay, minerals and iron that give the characteristic set of flavours typical of Primitivo. Intervention in the vineyard is kept to a minimum, wanting to abolish any use of synthetic chemicals and pesticides, thus favouring a cyclic development of the vines. Harvesting is conducted manually at first light towards the end of September. In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and gently crushed; this is followed by a short maceration on the skins for about 12 days with periodic add-ons. Malolactic fermentation is in steel, followed by 12 months of ageing in first and second passage barriques.
The colour of Farnese-Luccarelli's Primitivo di Manduria 'Il Bacca' is an intense ruby red with bright purple hues; the bouquet of aromas is reminiscent of ripe cherries and sour cherries, blackberries and slightly spicy hints such as tobacco and peppermint. The palate is sweetly spicy, elegant and enveloping with a final aftertaste of coffee and bitter cocoa. In pairing it is recommended with traditional red meat dishes; also interesting with game and aged sheep's cheese. Perfect to accompany important celebrations and anniversaries, savouring the most authentic flavours of the Apulian land, thanks to the synergic and painstaking work of wine connoisseurs.
