The Refosco Riserva "Roggio dei Roveri" from Bosco del Merlo is a intense and structured red, aged in wood for 12 months, which expresses all the character and strong personality of this important native Friulian grape variety. The red "Roggio dei Roveri" is born in the Bosco del Merlo estate, located on the border between Friuli and Veneto. A territory of ancient traditions, particularly suited thanks to a microclimate characterized by the breezes of the nearby Adriatic Sea and the cool winds descending from the Carnic Prealps. The soils are made up of the famous "caranto", a mixture of sedimentations of clays and limestone of ancient fluvial origin. The careful zoning work has allowed for the cultivation of each grape variety in the most suitable area and the mass selection of ancient vines has elevated the quality, enhancing the territorial typicity. The grapes for the Refosco Riserva come from the Bosco vineyard, a 3-hectare plot located in Lison di Portogruaro. It is cultivated with a density of 5050 vines per hectare and with a yield of less than 60 quintals/ha. After manual harvesting, with selection in the vineyard of the best bunches, alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel with skin maceration lasting about 25-30 days, to achieve a good extraction of aromas, color, and tannins. The wine then matures for 12 months in oak barrels and then for 6 months in large casks.
The Refosco Riserva "Roggio dei Roveri" wine is an excellent red, which interprets very faithfully the varietal characteristics of the grape and the terroir of the area of Portogruaro. The careful work in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the cellar, along with a very low use of sulfites, honestly express the most typical aromas of Refosco. The color is intense ruby red with violet hues. The bouquet is intense and enveloping, with aromas of small forest fruits,
