The Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is a Venezuelan rum renowned worldwide for its enveloping and smooth taste and its seductive aromas of ripe fruit, honey, exotic fruit, and caramel. It is a spirit perfect for those who especially appreciate the aromatic richness, a palate entry that is suave and never aggressive, unfolding with class and elegance into a sip of great pleasantness and gustatory harmony.
Diplomático Reserva is produced at the Distillerie Unidas, located in La Miel, right at the foothills of the Andes. In this area, about 80% of Venezuelan sugarcane is produced in its three most famous varieties: Central Romana, Venezuelana, and Canal Point. Reserva Diplomático's peculiarity is that sugarcane honey and, to a lesser extent, molasses are used in its production. It is delicately distilled in ancient copper pot-still stills for heavy rums and in column stills and Batch Kettles for the remaining 20% of light and semi-heavy rums. The molasses is fermented for 18 hours and the sugarcane juice for 48 hours; then, the two distillates are blended to form the final blend. The rum is aged for a remarkable 12 years in carefully selected American white oak barrels by the Master Rum Masters of the DUSA distillery. Only a light hint of caramel is added during the processing to enhance the amber colour.
Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is a spirit of great charm, rich and persistent, which, thanks to the exquisite quality of the starting raw materials and the long ageing in wood, acquires remarkable density and aromatic complexity. The colour is rather dark and amber, with lively golden reflections. The olfactory profile offers aromas of citrus, ripe fruit, spices, dried fruit, caramel, noble woods, and vanilla. The taste is warm and inviting, with a pleasant fruity softness, enriched with hints of cocoa, dark chocolate, soft toffee, spices, and candied citrus peels. The finish is of great persistence, long, and enveloping. It is best served neat or on the rocks and is also excellent in classic cocktails such as Old Fashioned and Manhattan.
