Sassella Stella Retica Ar.Pe.Pe. is unquestionably linked to a production history marked by strong choices and an undisputed passion for the complex Valtellina wine-growing area. In 150 years of history, the Pelizzatti Perego family has faced successes alternating with vicissitudes of various kinds, culminating in the 1970s, after a long period of hard work among the picturesque terraces of the Sondrio countryside, with the sale of the company to a foreign group due to inheritance disputes between the founder's descendants.

Since then, Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, the eponymous grandson of the creator of the first production of Nebbiolo della Valtellina from whose name the company acronym derives, has pursued with perseverance the dream of restoring continuity to the family business, regaining part of the family vineyards and the historic Buon Consiglio wine cellar, which in the meantime had fallen into bad waters with the production of generic wines. With the aim of regaining credibility after the years of decadence, Arturo worked on the front of his convictions, without lending his side to any compromises, setting his new production on the concept of 'just the right amount of time to wait': certain that time was the best way to bring out the potential of the terroir, Arturo ensured that for the first six years after the re-foundation his wines continued to enter the barrels of Buon Consiglio without anything leaving the cellar.

With this prerogative, Ar.Pe's wines continue to undergo long ageing periods, without the capital outlay justifying exorbitant prices: rather, Arturo wishes to give his wines the benefit of proper ageing, to give his public all the finesse of Nebbiolo di Valtellina. This is the case for Sassella Stella Retica, whose long maturation gives complexity without altering the typical freshness, in a crescendo of aromatic satisfaction marked by persistence and elegance: this is what the authenticity of Valtellina knows how to create and this is what Ar.Pe.Pe. pursues, against any easy concession to fashions or shortcuts.
