VALPOLICELLA SUPERIORE 'RUBERPAN' PIEROPAN 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Valpolicella Superiore "Ruberpan" from the Pieropan winery is a label of great drinkability, inspired by the classic model of the most traditional and iconic wine of this wonderful hilly region north of Verona. In keeping with ancient customs, it is made with indigenous red grape varieties that have been cultivated in Veneto for centuries, where they have found the best interaction with the soil and climate. The name, derived from the Latin word "ruber," emphasizes the deep connection with the oldest local practices. Valpolicella was already famous in antiquity for its great wines and still represents an important reference point today, marked by a strong territorial identity.

The "Ruberpan" by Pieropan is a Valpolicella Superiore that emerges from a research path beyond the standard expression of the region's wines. It is a label capable of indicating a new expressive path that is more modern and elegant. The red grape varieties Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Croatina come from the company's estate in Val d'Illasi, in the heart of Valpolicella. The vineyards are cultivated in a splendid natural setting at an altitude of approximately 300-350 meters above sea level, with a wonderfully south-facing exposure. The mild and ventilated climate and predominantly limestone and clay soils allow for producing clusters with particularly fine and elegant aromas. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a maceration period on the skins of about twelve days. The wine ages for 24 months in large barrels, followed by an additional 24 months in oak tonneaux and completes its long ageing process with six months in the bottle before leaving the cellar.

The Valpolicella Superiore "Ruberpan" is a surprising wine for its ability to blend the historical customs of the region with the ideas of a great innovator in the Veneto wine world. In the glass, it presents a beautiful, intense, and bright ruby-red colour. On the nose, it releases a rich bouquet characterized by scents of ripe cherry, currant, strawberry, small berries, soft hints of cinnamon and oriental spices, nuances of vanilla, delicate woody memories, cocoa, and bitter chocolate. The palate is harmonious and smooth, with a subtle tannic texture and a perfect balance between rich, ripe fruit and refined notes of tertiary evolution due to the extended wood ageing. The finish is pleasantly fruity, fresh, and fragrant.
