Sigurd's 'White Blend' is a fascinating blend from the Barossa Valley that combines Semillon, the area's premier white, with aromatic Vermentino, Muscat Blanc and Viognier. A tailor-made orange wine: part of the Vermentino and Muscat ferment separately on the skins and the Semillon co-ferments with the Viognier in steel and large barrels. On the nose and in the mouth it offers tropical scents of lychee, white-fleshed fruit and a touch of white pepper that entices the sip, which has an enveloping texture and remarkable length. Perfect with Asian cuisine, try it with Thai dishes
Sigurd's 'White Blend' is an Australian orange wine made from an absolutely original blend of Vermentino, Semillon, Muscat a Petit Grain and Viognier. We are in the Barossa Valley, South Australia's renowned wine-growing area, located 60 kilometres north-east of the city of Adelaide. In this remote land, winemaker Dan Graham set up his beautiful wine project with the aim of building a bridge between the Old and New Worlds, on the strength of his work experience in Italy, France, Portugal, Canada and New Zealand. In 2012, Dan launched Sigurd, immediately adopting an environmentally friendly production approach.
Sigurd 'White Blend' consists of a blend of Vermentino, Semillon, Muscat a Petit Grain and Viognier grapes grown in the Barossa Valley area and vinified separately. Specifically, the Vermentino is partly pressed directly and partly processed through alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins for 10 days and subsequent passage in 500-litre French oak barrels. Semillon, partly co-fermented with Viognier with a few days of skin maceration, is vinified in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large oak casks. Finally, the Muscat a Petit Grain undergoes alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins for 8 days before passing into 300-litre French oak barrels. Once the fermentation processes are complete, the different masses are assembled in a large 30-year-old French oak cask, in which the maturing phase of several months on the fine lees takes place.
Sigurd 'White Blend' is bright orange in colour. The nose plays on intense hints of tropical fruit such as lychee, fine notes of peach and apricot jam and hints of white pepper. The palate shows marked freshness and a non-invasive structure, as well as pleasant tannin that accompanies the long aromatic persistence.
