Ampeleia signifies 'vine', from the ancient Greek 'ampelos', and is the name given to this ambitious winemaking project launched in the early 2000s. The aim was to produce wines that not only express the potential of the land but also that of the vine, defined as the 'noble mother of the grape'.

Ampeleia is managed by a group of young people led by Marco Tait, winemaker and company manager, who took over the winery's reins at only 22 years of age. The vineyards of the Ampeleia winery are spread over 3 different levels of altitude between 200 and 600 metres above sea level, for a total of 35 hectares under vine. These include Ampeleia di Sopra, Ampeleia di Mezzo and Ampeleia di Sotto. The territory is situated in the district of Roccatederighi, in the heart of the Maremma area, on the slopes of the high Grosseto Metalliferous Hills, among chestnut woods, wheat fields and valleys. The vineyards are cultivated with great skill and sensitivity, without the use of chemical pesticides or herbicides, and have now been completely converted to biodynamic production.

The products of the Ampeleia winery are the result of a profound knowledge of the vineyards: the culmination of a journey of insight and appreciation of the Maremma terroir. They are made from red grape varieties with a warm, Mediterranean personality: Alicante, Carignano and Cabernet Franc. These are non-native grape varieties that, thanks to Marco's intuition and hard work, have found their ideal terroir in the Maremma. The wines of Ampelaia are small masterpieces: the perfect combination of the variety's expressive aromas and the best characteristics of the terroir.
