Tenuta Montenisa was born out of the encounter between the ancient winemaking tradition of Marchesi Antinori and the vocated terroir of Franciacorta. The strong sparkling wine passion of Lodovico and Piero Antinori has been handed down since 1905 to the present day with Tenuta Montenisa. Here the vineyards surrounding the villa owned by the Maggi family represent the beating heart of Marchese Antinori's sparkling wine production in Franciacorta today.
The estate is located in the heart of Franciacorta, in the small, ancient village of Calino, where the extraordinary estate became the property of the Counts Maggi of Brescian origin back in 1158. Beneath the complex are the estate's ancient cellars, where the bottles still rest gently, in keeping with tradition, and to which the utmost attention is paid during their maturation. The yields in the vineyard are kept low and the grapes are harvested, as is tradition, slightly before full ripeness to best concentrate the freshness of the fruit. The varieties cultivated are those most representative of the wine-growing area: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay mainly, with a few plots of Pinot Blanc. The vinification phases follow the rules of the Metodo Classico, i.e. an initial fermentation in steel, a long second fermentation in the bottle in contact with the yeasts and final disgorgement.
Tenuta Montenisa's production is narrated through six sparkling wines, three of which belong to the 'Classics', dedicated to the cuvée blends, and another three 'Vintage' wines, produced only in the best vintages. Tenuta Montenisa's Franciacorta wines are characterised by an elegant, fine and fresh profile, marked by a delicate bouquet of citrus fruits, notes of pastry, dried fruit and light mineral hints. The ultimate excellence of Franciacorta in the sign of Antinori!
