Conterno Fantino
The Conterno Fantino winery, one of the longest-standing and most esteemed realities in the Langhe, was founded in the early '80s, when Lorenzo Conterno entrusted his estate (then called Colli Monfortesi) to his son Diego, his nephew Claudio, and his son-in-law Guido Fantino. The three are young, but driven by a great passion and possessing significant experience: Diego already has his own company, Claudio is in charge of the vineyard, and Guido is an oenologist and cellar master trained at Beppe Colla's school. The first bottles left the winery in 1982 and were characterized from the start by an expressive style that consists of a rich and fruity imprint, with forest aromas. Today the vineyards are managed organically and extend over estates that soon became famous for their ability to give depth and character to the wines: Ginestra, Mosconi, Castelletto, Bussia. The cultivation criteria include organic autumn nourishment of the vines, low doses of copper and sulfur, green pruning, and harvesting that takes place once phenolic maturity is reached.
The Conterno Fantino winery has been recently renovated and is based on the use of renewable sources and techniques aimed at energy saving. Extraordinary and uncommon attention is reserved for the production process: there is no step that is not analyzed to find the optimal and ecologically sustainable solution.
The production of Conterno Fantino consists of powerful and expressive Barolo, capable of evolving over time, matured in new French oak barriques after a maceration of about 10 days. These are charismatic and powerful wines, but endowed with their exquisite refinement, always balanced and impeccable. Respect for the winemaking tradition of the territory, ecological choices, maturation in wood, and long aging are the necessary rules to achieve the highest quality. For many years at the peak of great Piedmontese wines, the bottles signed by Conterno Fantino are must-have products for demanding and passionate drinkers.
