Ebner
Cantina Ebner is a small family-run estate located on the sun-drenched plateau of Renon, in the southern part of the Isarco Valley. Here, the vine meets the Alps and the mild breezes drifting up from the Mediterranean. The Unterthiner family cultivates its grapes with passion and expertise, crafting authentic, distinctive wines that faithfully reflect the territory in which they are born. The steep hills and rugged slopes where the vineyards stretch have been farmed for generations and preserve indigenous varieties, telling a story of winemaking excellence at the northernmost frontier of Italian viticulture.
At the heart of Ebner’s wines lies a clear vision: quality and authenticity begin in the vineyard. For the Unterthiner family, growing vines means devoting heart and soul to the land, interpreting each vintage as a unique expression. The south-facing terraced slopes of volcanic origin are dedicated to red varieties, while the more ventilated south-east-facing hillsides are reserved for white grapes. This division reflects a deep understanding of microclimates and soil characteristics. A central role is played by the traditional pergola training system, with vines over 40 years old, allowing the plants to draw nutrients in a balanced way and ensuring quality and concentration even during periods of greater drought.
In the cellar, Ebner carries out temperature-controlled fermentations to preserve freshness and a distinct mineral character. Aging on the fine lees adds depth and structure. Technical precision combined with artisanal sensitivity allows each wine from the Ebner estate to express the identity of its grape variety with clarity. The range extends from taut, savory whites such as Grüner Veltliner to fragrant reds like Schiava and Zweigelt, a rare variety in Alto Adige. All share elegance, aromatic purity, and a pronounced mineral imprint that mirrors the limestone and sandy soils of the Isarco Valley, offering wines that combine precision, balance, and lasting persistence on the palate.
