Tasca d'Almerita is not only one of the most famous wineries in Sicily, but it has also been a key player in the island's wine renaissance, thanks to an uncompromising commitment to quality. The origins of the estate are very old and date back to 1830, when Lucio and Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca purchased a 1200-hectare property in the Regaleari district, in the heart of Sicily, dedicated to both viticulture and cereal cultivation. After World War II, the estate began producing a white, a red, and a rosé wine, marking the start of its activities.
In the following years, a vineyard of Perricone and Nero d’Avola was planted on the San Lucio hill, which later gave rise to the famous Rosso del Conte label. Shortly thereafter, some international varieties, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, were introduced to the estate, adapting very well to the local pedoclimatic conditions. This choice allowed Tasca d'Almerita to compete with famous wineries worldwide and continue to improve in quality. Today, Tasca d’Almerita owns estates in various parts of Sicily. In addition to the historic core of Regaleari, which covers 600 hectares in a beautiful hilly area at an altitude between 450 and 800 meters above sea level, over the years the estates of Capofaro on Salina, Tascante on Etna, Whitaker on the island of Mozia, and Sallier de La Tour in Monreale have been added. This choice has enriched and diversified production, offering a range of labels that can represent all of Sicily.
The agronomic management of the estates is focused on environmental respect and sustainability, with particular attention to preserving the agricultural landscape and minimizing the human activity impact. For 11 years, the Tasca d’Almerita winery has adhered to the SOStain and VIVA projects to precisely evaluate and measure the overall sustainability of the company. This approach encompasses all aspects of business management, from the vineyard to the winery, through responsible use of energy, water, and all other resources fundamental to production. Today, the winery is a model of eco-sustainable commitment, and its wines are the result of the desire to give voice to Sicily’s best terroirs.
