PELAVERGA DI VERDUNO 'SPEZIALE' FRATELLI ALESSANDRIA 2021 DESCRIPTION

Pelaverga di Verduno "Speziale" is an elegant red, characterized by refined floral and spicy aromas and fresh, fragrant fruity aromas. A wine of medium body and great finesse, representing one of the excellences of the magnificent land of the Langhe area. Grown almost exclusively in the territory of the municipality of Verduno, Pelaverga Piccolo is an ancient native Piedmontese grape variety, which charms with its seductive bouquet, the pleasantness of its agile and dynamic sip and its expressive immediacy.

The red wine "Speziale" is made with Pelaverga piccolo grapes, which come from different estate crus, all of which are located within the territory of the municipality of Verduno: Riva Rocca, Campasso, Boscatto, Neirane, Sotto Orti and Galleria. The vineyards are cultivated in hilly areas, at an altitude between 250 and 400 meters, on limestone matrix soils. The vines have an average age of about 20 years and are trained by Guyot, with a density of about 4500 vines per hectare. After manual harvesting, which usually takes place in the second half of September, fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25-26 °C, with maceration on the skins for 6-8 days. The wine matures in steel or cement for several months and is bottled around April or May of the year following the harvest.

Pelaverga di Verduno "Speziale" produced by Cantina Fratelli Alessandria represents a real gem in the panorama of Piedmontese wines. A small production area, which has preserved from extinction this ancient native grape variety, capable of surprising with its expressive finesse and delicate spicy tones. The color is a brilliant ruby red. The bouquet captivates and conquers with delicate floral scents, hints of spice and aromas of small berries. The sip is agile, fresh and dynamic, with a light and silky tannic texture, rich aromatic persistence and pleasant final freshness.
