Rosso di Valtellina Ar.Pe.Pe. is a label created during the 2003 harvest, a particularly hot and dry year. Not all the grapes had the characteristics to produce wines destined for long ageing, so the idea was born to start making a simpler, younger, more fragrant wine that could give immediate pleasure. Today, it is one of the most successful bottles, also thanks to its excellent adaptability in pairings. At the table it goes very well with pasta with meat sauce, with roast or spit-roasted poultry.
Ar.Pe.Pe.'s Valtellina Rosso is the fruit of a winery that has innovated the face of valley wines by focusing on absolute quality. It has rapidly established itself among wine lovers thanks to a range of high-level labels that have enhanced the value of Nebbiolo in the Alpine area, consecrating it among the excellences of our peninsula. The label originates from the winery's vineyards located in a hilly area, at an altitude of between 350 and 600 metres above sea level, facing south-east. The poor, stony soils and the cool climate with good temperature fluctuations allow excellent ripening of the grapes. Harvesting takes place in the first ten days of October and the grapes are fermented in 50-hectolitre wooden vats, with a long maceration on the skins. The wine matures for 5 months in 50-hectolitre barrels and in cement vats, before completing its refinement with a few months in the bottle.
The Rosso di Valtellina Ar.Pe.Pe. is a version of the territory's most classic wine, highlighting the finesse and elegance of a splendid mountain Nebbiolo and the stony, mineral character of a magnificent terroir, for centuries vocated for the production of great reds. In the glass, it has a bright, clear ruby colour. The olfactory picture is characterised by fragrant aromas of raspberry, morello cherry, redcurrant, violet nuances and delicately spicy hints. Of medium structure and intensity, it has dense but velvety tannins and a slightly fruity and austere taste, which closes on savoury sensations of pleasant freshness.
