BAROLO 'ALBE' VAJRA 2019 DESCRIPTION

Barolo 'Albe' from the family-run G.D. Vajra winery is a seductive and balanced expression of Nebbiolo, made from a blend of the highest vineyards owned by the Vaira family. The appellation 'Albe' refers to the fact that the plots are located on different slopes with varying exposures, so that on the same day it is possible to admire the sunrise from these vineyards at three different times. As Milena Vaira says, with this wine, the family wishes to 'convey the exceptional simplicity of Nature that makes the daily miracle of life awakening possible'.
Vajra Barolo 'Albe' is a pure Nebbiolo from a blend of different vineyards with south-south-east to south-west exposure. The altitudes are high, between 380 and 480 metres above sea level, while the soils are clayey-calcareous in nature. After harvesting, the grapes are mellowed in vertical steel vats for alcoholic fermentation accompanied by 30-40 days of maceration on the skins. In spring, the wine spontaneously undergoes malolactic fermentation and is then racked into large Slavonian oak casks where it is left to age for between 18 and 36 months.
In the glass, Vajra's Barolo 'Albe' shows a transparent and luminous ruby red colour with a garnet rim. The olfactory range is composed of vivid and refined hints of small red fruits, plums, flowers and aromatic herbs, enriched by perceptions of sweet spices, pine resin and tobacco. In the mouth, it manages to be intense and delicate at the same time, with a beautiful freshness and a mature and elegant tannic texture. Very long finish of commendable harmony and balance, consistent with the sensations perceived on the nose.
