This Brunello di Montalcino by Casanova di Neri is produced in Montalcino, a place with a long history behind it that dates back to the time of the Holy Roman Empire. The winery was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, who, as a grain merchant, indulged his passion for the world of wine, dedicating himself to the production of products of superlative quality: he took over old local vineyards to valorize them and began planting new ones, so that his work would be projected into the future. In 1978 the winery's first Brunello was put on the market and in 1982 the first Rosso di Montalcino. Since 1991, the business has been in the hands of Giovanni's son, Giacomo, who has continued his father's work, handing down the passion and tradition to his children, so that the work of the Neri family can survive the passage of time.
The vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino Casanova di Neri grow on soils composed of a unique mix of rocks, made particular by the geological changes that the Italian territory has undergone during the phenomenon of the landmass. Fluvial basins due to the presence of the Ombrone river coexist with clayey and schist sediments and present an ideal terrain for Sangiovese to unleash its intrinsic potential. The harvest is carried out by hand in the first week of October and in the vineyard there is a manual selection of the bunches that reach the cellar. Here they are destemmed and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation begins thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts in steel. It matures 42 months in oak barrels and then 6 months in the bottle.
The colour of Casanova di Neri's Brunello di Montalcino is a brilliant ruby red with intense reflections; the aromas are reminiscent of citrus fruits and red berries such as cherry, raspberry and black cherry. On the palate it has soft and silky tannins, accompanied by an intrinsic elegance and good freshness that entice drinking glass after glass. It is recommended with traditional Tuscan red meat dishes cooked on the grill or stewed, local game and first courses dressed with hearty sauces; also recommended with mature cow's milk cheeses for curious meal endings. A product to reserve for the family holiday table to enjoy a wine that is the fruit of experience and that reflects the great winemaking history of the land of Montalcino and its most authentic flavours.
