GEWURZTRAMINER 'SANCT VALENTIN' ST MICHAEL EPPAN 2021 DESCRIPTION

San Michele Appiano's "Sanct Valentin" Gewürztraminer represents a rich and concentrated expression of this unique pink berry aromatic variety that originated in Alto Adige. In fact, the German name Gewürztraminer literally means "spiced from Termeno", indicating the municipality of Bolzano province that is the birthplace of the Traminer family, to which the Savagnin Blanc grape variety also belongs. In addition to its pronounced aromatic scents of lychee and rose, Gewürztraminer is distinguished by the high sugar concentration of the ripening grapes, which makes this variety suitable for producing dry wines with high alcohol content or sweet wines. Also, because of these attributes, since 1986, San Michele Appiano winery has included this grape variety in its premium 'Sanct Valentin' line.

San Michele Appiano's "Sanct Valentin" Gewürztraminer is made exclusively from Gewürztraminer grapes from various vineyards located in the municipalities of Cortaccia, Caldaro, and Appiano. The soils are predominantly calcareous-clayey, characterized by an abundant presence of gravel, while the altitudes range between 300 and 500 meters above sea level. Once fully ripe, the grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected, then subjected to a short pre-fermentation maceration followed by soft pressing. The resulting must is then conveyed to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature and the subsequent maturation for several months before bottling.

San Michele Appiano's "Sanct Valentin" Gewürztraminer has a straw yellow color with greenish reflections. Its olfactory range is distinctly aromatic with fruity and floral scents that evoke lychee, white rose, and ripe apricot, followed by characteristic hints of oriental spices and honey. The full-bodied and rich enveloping taste is well balanced by the tantalizing freshness that anticipates the long finish with sweet sensations.

When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
