GRECO DI TUFO 'VIGNA CICOGNA' BENITO FERRARA 2021 DESCRIPTION

Benito Ferrara's Greco di Tufo "Vigna Cicogna" is one of Campania's most famous white wines and a true excellence of our oenological panorama. It is born in the heart of Irpinia, in the hamlet of San Paolo di Tufo, the true cradle of this ancient indigenous white grape variety, characterised by remarkable structure, aromatic richness and longevity. It is the winery's most important label, the one that best represents the territory's tradition in its purest, most authentic and rigorous interpretation. It is already a very pleasant bottle to drink immediately, but it's destined to reach its full expressive maturity after a couple of years of ageing.

"Vigna Cicogna" is a Greco di Tufo produced by one of the most important wineries in the Irpinian district. Benito Ferrara is a family business that has been producing wines in Tufo for four generations. The estate comprises ten hectares cultivated with classic local grape varieties. The Greco grapes come from Vigna Cicogna, a particularly well-suited estate plot, which is located at an altitude of around 500 metres above sea level with an east-facing exposure. At the end of the harvesting operations, the grapes are subjected to soft pressing and the free-run must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. All vinification operations take place under absolute protection from oxygen, to avoid the risk of oxidation. The wine matures in steel vats for 7 months on fine lees, in order to enrich its intensity and aromatic complexity.

Benito Ferrara's "Vigna Cicogna" Greco di Tufo is a wine dedicated to those who prefer clear and vertical whites, endowed with remarkable expressive energy and vibrant freshness. In the glass it has a light yellow colour with luminous reflections. The olfactory profile is elegant and refined, with scents of lime zest, grapefruit, medicinal herbs, aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean maquis, fragrant fruity aromas, nuances of almond and dried fruit. On the palate it has a good structure, with a rich, taut and deep bite, marked by a pleasant saline trail. The finish is very fresh and with good taste persistence. An essential label for those who love Irpinian whites.
