AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE 'LA FIRMA' CANTINE DEL NOTAIO 2016 DESCRIPTION

Cantine del Notaio's "La Firma" Aglianico del Vulture is an exemplary expression of Aglianico del Vulture, an oenological monument of which the character of the terroir clearly emerges. It is an austere, imposing wine, initially striking for its power, only to let its complex, mysterious and elegant soul be revealed with time. It's intense but it doesn't feel heavy, its vigor becomes a fundamental tool to communicate and articulate the character of this grape variety. Cantine del Notaio is located in Rionero in Vulture, in the province of Potenza, the land of choice for Lucanian Aglianico. Processing, both in the field and in the cellar, is intended to be as minimally invasive as possible, and for this reason Cantine del Notaio is inspired by organic and biodynamic forms of agriculture. Of the latter, the scientific and experimental approach is taken above all and it is the basis on which the daily work in the cellar is developed.

"La Firma" Cantine del Notaio is made from Aglianico grapes, harvested by hand during the first ten days of November when slightly over-ripe. The choice of this period is fundamental to allow the tannins to mature sufficiently, smoothing out their pronounced varietal hardness. The alcoholic fermentation phase is followed by ageing, which takes place in natural volcanic tuff caves. Here, for about 12 months, the wine matures in French oak barrels or tonneaux. A further 12 months in the bottle makes the wine ready for marketing.

Aglianico del Vulture "La Firma" by Cantine del Notaio has a ruby red colour enlivened by purple highlights. The nose detects aromas of black fruit and berries, flanked by hints of carob and amaretto; pungent sensations of aromatic herbs give an intriguing character to the bouquet, which closes in a liquorice finish. The jam also emerges in the mouth, defined by a full, enveloping and pleasantly fresh sip. Complexity, complexity and more complexity and power: this is Aglianico del Vulture.
