Barbaresco from the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative winery is a typical expression of the appellation, endowed with fine elegance and important structure. Until 1894, Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Barbaresco area were either destined for the production of Barolo or vinified as a table wine. It was Domizio Cavazza who recognized that the qualities of Barbaresco's Nebbiolo deserved its own label, so he decided to bring together local winemakers to make wine in the castle of Barbaresco, naming the labels after the township. Following Cavazza's death, the social winery closed in the 1920s, and in 1958 Barbaresco parish priest Don Fiorino Marengo decided to resume that tradition by bringing together 19 local farmers and thus founding the Produttori del Barbaresco winery.
Produttori del Barbaresco's Barbaresco is made with only Nebbiolo grapes from several vineyards in the Barbaresco area. The rows, located at an average altitude of 250 meters above sea level, are planted on clay-limestone soils characterized by the presence of sandy veins. Following the harvest, the grapes are mellowed in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation, associated with about 28 days of maceration on the skins. After malolactic fermentation is complete, the mass ages for 20 months in large 50-hectoliter oak barrels.
Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco has a garnet-red color with ruby hints. The aromatic range opens on intense and persistent aromas of small berries such as currant, strawberry, raspberry and blueberry, followed by elegant notes of rose, tobacco, rhubarb and dark spices. The taste is vivid, warm and enveloping, marked by pleasant freshness and soft tannins.
