Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia 'Cicala' constitutes a prestigious and articulate label that fully reflects Langhe austerity. The fine Cicala vineyard is one of three cru plots owned by Poderi Aldo Conterno, located within the extensive MGA of Bussia in Monforte d'Alba and planted with Nebbiolo in the Michet and especially Lampia biotypes. The goal of the Conterno family, which has been dedicated to wine production for five generations, is to offer the most authentic expression of the terroir, far from compromise and without seeking the unconditional approval of the market.
Poderi Aldo Conterno's Barolo Bussia 'Cicala' is a Nebbiolo grown within the Cicala vineyard on clay-limestone soils rich in calcium carbonate and iron. The vines have an average age of 40-45 years and enjoy exceptional southern and southwestern exposure. Once the grapes have reached perfect ripeness, manual harvesting and careful selection of the bunches are carried out, which are then mellowed in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation accompanied by about 30 days of maceration on the skins. Following several rackings, the wine is placed to age in large Slavonian oak barrels for at least 28 months before final bottling.
In the glass, the 'Cicala' Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia reveals a luminous garnet-red color. The olfactory profilem consists of compact and very intense aromas of berries, violet, dried flowers and licorice, enriched by deep hints of tobacco, leather and iron. The palate is energetic and powerful, robust and structured, with a solemn impact perfectly balanced by brilliant freshness and stately tannins. Endless persistence on spicy and mineral sensations consistent with the nose.
