PRIMITIVO GIOIA DEL COLLE '17' POLVANERA 2020 DESCRIPTION

Primitivo Gioia del Colle "17" from Puglia winery Polvanera is the ultimate expression of this ancient variety, which well expresses the generosity and warmth of the land of Puglia. From a long family tradition and a deep knowledge of the territory, wines of great personality and character are born. It is a warm, sunny and Mediterranean red wine, with a mature and harmonious face, giving a very rich and dense fruit. Soft and complex, it represents the right bottle for those who prefer great reds to be paired with main courses of important meats, such as roasts, mixed grills or game.

The red Primitivo Gioia del Colle "17" is the high-gravity wine from the Polvanera winery, which has decided to decline this extraordinary grape variety, which has been present in Puglia for centuries, into several versions. The grapes come from 70 years-old vines, grown according to the ancient "alberello" method, in the Montevella vineyard in Acquaviva delle Fonti, at an 'altitude of about 300 meters above sea level. The soils are deep, mainly composed of silt and light-colored clays. Harvesting is done manually in the first weeks of September, when the grapes are fully ripe. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25 °C, using only indigenous yeasts and a 4-week maceration on the skins. The wine matures for 24 months in steel tanks and is aged for one year in the bottle.

Polvanera's Primitivo Gioia del Colle wine "17" carries its alcohol content on the label, immediately illustrating the wine's special character. In the glass it is dark, almost impenetrable purple-red in color, enlivened by bright ruby highlights. Complex and rich, it expresses intense aromas of blackberry, black currant, plum, ripe black cherry, wild berry jam, hints of herbs, licorice root, dark chocolate and oriental spices. The palate is warm and soft, with silky tannins drowned in enveloping ripe fruit, making the persuasive and harmonious sip. The finish is very persistent, long and balanced, with a closure that returns to pleasant fruity notes. This is a wine suitable for those who prefer powerful, round and concentrated reds.
