ROSSO DI MONTALCINO COL D'ORCIA 2020 DESCRIPTION

Rosso di Montalcino Col d'Orcia is a historic label from the winery, which has been producing a young, fragrant Sangiovese since the early 1970s. The idea was to offer a less structured and complex version of Montalcino wine than the famous Brunello. It is a fruity, flowing red that is particularly suitable for everyday drinking. It was an immediate success, and even today it is still the perfect choice for those who love Sangiovese with a simple taste that favors the direct expression of varietal aromas. Because of its characteristics, it is a particularly versatile wine in pairings. It goes very well with first courses with meat or game sauces, with roasts or grilled meat.

Rosso di Montalcino wine comes from one of the places that has contributed the most to the success and fame of this area of Tuscany. Col d'Orcia is located in the southwest area of the famous hill of Montalcino, in the area of Sant'Angelo in Colle. The estate covers 140 hectares, conducted with full respect for the environment, under certified organic farming. The grapes come from Sangiovese grosso vineyards grown on the hill of Sant'Angelo, at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, with sunny exposure facing south. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are sent to fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 26-28 °C, with maceration on the skins for a dozen days. The wine rests for 9 months in Slavonian oak barrels of capacities between 75 and 150 hectoliters, in oak tonneaux and in concrete tanks. The aging period ends with several months in bottle before release.

Rosso di Montalcino Col d'Orcia is the clearest and most sincere expression of pure Sangiovese in its youthful fruity exuberance. It is a classic and elegant wine, a medium-bodied red made with a delicate vinification that favors fruit over important structure. It has a brilliant ruby red color to the eye. The nose is characterized by intense aromas of cherry, small red berries, morello cherry, delicate floral nuances of violet, herbs and spices. The sip is easy, pleasantly fruity, with subtle tannins, crisp aromas and a closure of lively freshness that entices drinking.
