VERDICCHIO DI MATELICA COLLESTEFANO 2021 DESCRIPTION

Verdicchio di Matelica from the family-run Collestefano winery represents an agile and smooth interpretation of the terroir, produced according to the principles of certified organic farming. The estate is located in Castelraimondo, among the hills of the Camertina Valley, a plateau that enjoys a mild climate. Here, since its arrival in the 1960s, the Marchionni family has been growing organic vineyards, certified since 1995. Organic fertilization, low use of copper in phytosanitary treatments, traditional winemaking and limited use of sulfur dioxide represent just some of the practices used by the Marchionni family.

Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica is made from only Verdicchio grapes grown at 420 meters above sea level on medium-textured soils rich in limestone. The vines, from a mass selection of local clones, are grown under a certified organic system. Harvesting is done by hand in small crates and the clusters are then subjected to a soft pressing, with the resulting must undergoing a slow alcoholic fermentation in low-temperature stainless steel tanks. The ensuing maturation phase, which takes place on fine lees, also takes place in stainless steel for 4 months, and malolactic fermentation is not carried out in order to preserve the freshness of the finished wine.

Verdicchio di Matelica Collestefano has a straw yellow color with characteristic greenish highlights. The olfactory range is composed of intense and varied aromas of white-fleshed fruit, citrus fruits such as citron and grapefruit, apple, wild flowers and almond. On the palate it is elegant, juicy and dynamic, with a vibrant fresh-sappy drive and a pleasant fruity, almondy finish.
