Livio Felluga's Chardonnay is a great Friulian white, which confirms the talent of one of the most important wineries, not only in Friuli. The characteristic Felluga labels, which depict the territory's map, are known throughout the world and represent a guarantee of quality. Chardonnay is one of the international grape varieties that has adapted best to the Colli Orientali area. In this land, it expresses itself with a sunny, rich and almost Mediterranean character, while emphasising the saline and mineral notes typical of the terroir, which represent a true stylistic signature. A great ambassador of Friulian wine.
Livio Felluga's white Chardonnay comes from a winery that is an icon of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Since the 1950s, it has steered production towards quality, aware of the value of one of the territories in our peninsula most suited to the production of great whites, both with native and international grapes. The Chardonnay vineyards are located in a hilly area with good sunshine and constant ventilation. The soils are composed of flysch, called ponca in Friulian, a sedimentation of marl and sandstone derived from ancient marine outcrops. These are stony and not very fertile soils, very rich in minerals and particularly suitable for excellent viticulture. Harvesting is done manually during the second half of September. After destemming, the grapes undergo a short cold maceration and then a soft pressing. The must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine matures on the lees for a few months, again in stainless steel, to enrich its structure and aromatic complexity.
Livio Felluga's Chardonnay wine is an elegant, well-structured white wine that perfectly expresses the mineral character of its terroir. On the table it is best paired with fish dishes, with delicate white meats, and with fresh or short-aged cheeses. To the eye it has a beautiful light yellow colour with luminous golden reflections. Refined and intense, it reveals a bouquet characterised by floral hints, aromas of citrus fruit, ripe white-fleshed fruit, apple, peach, soft nuances of tropical fruit, particularly pineapple, papaya and mango. The sip offers creamy sensations, a rich and ripe fruit well balanced by freshness and savouriness that accompany towards a finish of good taste persistence.
