PINOT GRIS 'SANCT VALENTIN' ST MICHAEL EPPAN 2020 DESCRIPTION

Pinot Grigio 'Sanct Valentin' is a label that belongs to San Michele Appiano's most prestigious collection. It is a great classic of the South Tyrolean winery, which has been producing it since the 1980s, using only grapes from the estate's best vineyards. The long ageing in wood contributes to enhancing the bouquet with complex, deep, soft and enveloping aromas that perfectly express the rich personality of this noble grape variety. It is a wine for those who prefer ripeness of fruit, expressive harmony and aromatic intensity.

The "Sanct Valentin" Pinot Grigio from San Michele Appiano originates from a historic South Tyrolean winery, which has been producing wines linked to the best traditions of the region for over a century. The Pinot Grigio vineyards that provide the grapes for the Sanct Valentin selection are chosen from the most suitable plots, which are located near Eppan, at an altitude of between 420 and 600 metres above sea level, with south-east and south-west facing exposure. The soils are of ancient moraine origin, rich in limestone gravel, which makes them very draining and rich in mineral elements. The climate is cool, characterised by significant temperature variations, which favour slow and optimal ripening of the grapes. Harvesting takes place around mid-September, with manual picking and selection of the best bunches in the vineyard. After soft pressing, the must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine matures for about a year in barriques and tonneaux, also carrying out malolactic fermentation, and completes its ageing with at least 6 months in cement vats before final bottling.

San Michele Appiano's Pinot Grigio "Sanct Valentin" is a white wine with a remarkable structure and concentration, which also possesses a good propensity for ageing, with interesting tertiary evolutions. Its characteristics make it a ductile table companion, which is equally at home with important seafood dishes, fish in sauce or baked, as well as with noble poultry or delicate white meats. It has an intense and luminous light yellow colour. The bouquet is rich and broad, with aromas of white-fleshed fruit, golden apple, pear, hints of tropical fruit, nuances of vanilla and soft spices. Its density offers pleasantly satisfying and creamy taste sensations, with a complex and persistent aromatic spectrum, well balanced by a harmonious and fresh finish.
